At Home with Antiques
When I was a kid, I’d play for hours on the old Remington typewriter sitting on the sewing chest in our guest bedroom. I loved the sound the keys made hitting the page as I would try, unsuccessfully, to type a sentence – or even my name, without making an error. The typewriter belonged to my great grandmother, who was an elementary school teacher. To this day, the site of an old typewriter takes me back to a sweet childhood and daydreams of days gone by.
Whether they bring us a nostalgic moment, remind us of a loved one, or simply add a touch of whimsy to an otherwise generic space, decorating with antiques is a wonderful way to invoke our history, tell a piece of our story or simply add personality to a room. The secret is out — vintage treasures add warmth to our lives. Stylish and sustainable, layering your favorite antique finds into your home is a trend that is here to stay
Type “antique” into dictionary.com and some pretty unflattering synonyms pop up: aged, elderly, obsolete and out-of-date. I beg to differ! Maybe it’s because I grew up in a home filled with antiques from around the world.
